Jakarta, ThedailyID — The Indonesian rupiah closed slightly lower against the US dollar on Monday, November 2, 2026.
The rupiah ended trading at Rp18,156 per US dollar, down nine points or 0.05 percent from the previous session.
Currencies across Asia showed mixed movements against the greenback. The Chinese yuan and Philippine peso gained, while the Malaysian ringgit, Singapore dollar, Japanese yen, and South Korean won weakened.
Major currencies in developed markets also moved in different directions. The euro, British pound, Canadian dollar, and Swiss franc strengthened, while the Australian dollar declined.
DOO Financial Futures currency analyst Lukman Leong said investors remained cautious throughout the week. Markets are waiting for key domestic and global economic data, as well as the US midterm legislative elections.
“The rupiah closed slightly lower against the US dollar, reflecting investor caution during a week marked by expectations for domestic and global economic data, as well as the US midterm legislative elections,” Lukman told CNN Indonesia.
He said Indonesia’s latest inflation and trade data performed better than expected and helped support the rupiah.
However, foreign investors continued to record net selling in the domestic equity market. This put additional pressure on the Indonesian currency.
“Indonesia’s inflation and trade data released this afternoon were relatively better than expected, supporting the rupiah. However, foreign investors’ net selling in the equity market continued to weigh on the currency,” he said.
Meanwhile, the US dollar index and global oil prices weakened amid hopes for continued peace negotiations in the Middle East.
