Jakarta, ThedailyID — Russia reported that a large-scale Ukrainian drone attack damaged an industrial facility in the Nizhny Novgorod region, east of Moscow, early Sunday (November 1).
The attack came after Kyiv claimed it had struck one of Russia’s largest oil refineries.
Nizhny Novgorod Governor Gleb Nikitin said the drone attack continued throughout the night. He said an industrial facility in the Kstovo district suffered significant damage.
“More than 100 drones were destroyed,” Nikitin said in a statement, according to AFP.
He said initial reports showed no casualties. However, Nikitin did not specify which industrial facility the drones had targeted.
Ukrainian media, meanwhile, reported that the attack targeted the Kstovo oil refinery. The facility ranks among Russia’s major oil processing plants and produces fuel and lubricants.
The latest attack adds to a series of strikes on Russian energy infrastructure since Moscow launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
On Friday, October 30, Moscow also said Ukraine had resumed attacks on Russian oil facilities after a brief pause.
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said Ukraine had targeted three oil refineries and one gas petrochemical complex.
Kyiv has repeatedly targeted Russian oil and gas facilities in response to Moscow’s attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
The strikes have also drawn attention from US President Donald Trump. In recent weeks, Trump has reportedly urged Kyiv to stop targeting Russian oil refineries.
Trump linked the attacks to rising diesel prices. However, Ukraine has continued its strikes on Russian energy infrastructure as the war continues.
