Jakarta, ThedailyID — Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung is considering a proposal to keep 76 public parks across the capital open 24 hours a day. He has instructed officials to further assess the plan before making a final decision.
Pramono announced the proposal during the 2026 Benyamin S Award ceremony in Jakarta on Friday, October 30. The initiative was presented as part of a regional potential mapping conducted by the Jakarta Provincial Government.
“There was a proposal earlier to finalize plans for 76 parks that could operate 24 hours. I will make a decision soon,” Pramono said.
He also highlighted his administration’s efforts to extend operating hours at public facilities, including several parks, libraries and museums. Some libraries, he said, could remain open until 10 p.m.
Pramono believes that expanding public access to these facilities could help Jakarta strengthen its position as a global city. He added that maintaining such initiatives would support the capital’s ambition to become one of the world’s top 50 global cities.
Meanwhile, Tona Hutauruk, head of the Regional Cooperation Bureau at Jakarta’s Regional Secretariat, said the Benyamin S Award 2026 process had identified several new tourism and recreational opportunities across the capital.
The mapping identified 76 parks with the potential to operate around the clock, 94 locations featuring regional culinary destinations, as well as dozens of cultural, historical, natural and religious tourism attractions at the subdistrict level.
Tona explained that the findings emerged from the award’s judging process, demonstrating that the initiative could generate broader benefits beyond recognizing the competition’s winners.
