Jakarta, ThedailyID — Meta has introduced Muse Charm, a tiny artificial intelligence device designed to work like a digital pet and a bag accessory.
The device resembles a modern Tamagotchi. It lets users access AI without unlocking their smartphones or opening an app.
Muse Charm features an OLED screen measuring around 2 inches. It also includes a speaker, microphone, and USB-C port.
The device connects to Muse AI through a 5G network. Users can tap a fingerprint sensor to start speaking directly with the AI.
“You simply tap the fingerprint sensor in the corner, then you can start talking without unlocking your phone or opening the app,” Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said during Meta Connect on September 23, as quoted by TechCrunch.
The screen displays a small character that users can customize. The concept resembles Tamagotchi, the virtual pet that became a major toy trend in the late 1990s.
However, Meta is also positioning Muse Charm as an accessory rather than simply a technology product. Its design reflects the growing popularity of decorative bag charms among younger consumers.
The trend gained attention during the Labubu craze. Although interest in Labubu has declined, the wider trend of attaching small decorative items to bags has continued.
The trend has also created opportunities for other products. Items such as lip gloss, hand sanitizer, sunscreen, and perfume now appear in keychain-style packaging across supermarkets and online marketplaces.
Muse Charm also fits into the broader revival of retro technology. Physical products such as digital cameras, flip phones, iPods, CDs, cassette tapes, landline phones, and wired earphones have gained renewed attention among younger consumers.
The shift comes as some young users seek alternatives to highly digital experiences. Physical objects can offer something tangible and give users a more direct way to interact with technology.
Meta is still developing Muse Charm and has not announced its price or launch markets. The company currently plans to begin marketing the device in December.
