Jakarta, ThedailyID — Apple has officially introduced the iPhone Duo, its first foldable smartphone, on Thursday, September 10, 2026.
The device features two displays, Apple’s A20 Pro chip and a dual 48MP camera system. It also supports multitasking and Apple Pencil.
“An extraordinary series of innovations that we believe will transform the foldable phone experience. This is iPhone Duo,” Apple CEO John Ternus said on Thursday, September 10, 2026.
7.6-Inch Foldable Display
The iPhone Duo has a 5.4-inch outer display for use when folded. Its inner display measures 7.6 inches when fully opened.
Apple says the outer screen offers around 90% of the display area found on the iPhone 18 Pro.
The inner screen is around 50% larger than the iPhone 18 Pro Max display. Both screens use the same aspect ratio, allowing content to adjust when users switch between them.
The displays support ProMotion and Always-On Display. Peak brightness reaches 3,000 nits for outdoor use.
The inner display also uses nano-texture glass. Apple says this helps reduce glare and reflections while making the fold less noticeable.
The phone supports Apple Pencil via USB-C. Users can use it for notes, drawings and document marking.
Titanium Body and New Hinge
Apple uses Grade 5 titanium for the iPhone Duo’s body.
The hinge contains more than 100 components. They work together to control the opening and closing motion while supporting the center of the display when unfolded.
The rear panel features Ceramic Shield. The outer display uses Ceramic Shield 2, which Apple says is three times more scratch-resistant than the previous generation.
The device also carries an IP68 rating for resistance to water, splashes and dust.
Dual 48MP Cameras
The iPhone Duo features a 48MP Fusion main camera. It can capture images at up to 48MP, while the default output is 24MP.
The camera also offers 2x optical telephoto. It uses a large sensor, wide aperture and sensor-shift optical image stabilization.
Apple also includes a 48MP Ultra Wide Fusion camera with macro photography support.
The foldable design allows users to take selfies with the rear cameras while viewing the preview on the outer display.
The Duo Preview feature can also show a live preview to the person being photographed.
Another feature, Smart Take, uses AI to analyze images and automatically capture a photo when the subject poses.
For video, the main camera supports 4K at 120fps in Dolby Vision. Users can also apply Cinematic effects after recording at up to 60fps.
iOS 27 Optimized for Foldable Design
Apple has optimized iOS 27 for the iPhone Duo’s larger display.
When the phone is unfolded, users can run two apps side by side using Split View.
They can also open two windows from the same app. Users can save app pairs for quick access later.
Apps including Netflix, Zoom and Slack are also designed to take advantage of the foldable display.
A20 Pro Chip
The iPhone Duo uses the same A20 Pro chip found in the iPhone 18 Pro.
The chip features a six-core CPU and seven-core GPU. Apple manufactures it using a 2-nanometer process.
Apple claims the CPU is up to 20% faster than the A19 Pro. The GPU delivers up to 40% higher performance.
The dual 16-core Neural Engine also offers twice the computing capability for on-device AI models.
Apple uses a dedicated vapor chamber to control heat during gaming, multitasking and AI workloads.
Battery and Connectivity
The iPhone Duo uses two batteries. Each battery sits on one side of the foldable device.
Apple claims the phone can provide up to 31 hours of video playback using the inner display.
Using the outer display, playback can reach up to 44 hours.
When users switch between both displays, battery life can reach up to 24 hours.
Wired charging can reach 50% in around 20 minutes. MagSafe or Qi2 charging takes around 30 minutes to reach the same level.
The iPhone Duo uses eSIM globally. Apple says more than 500 carriers support eSIM worldwide, including Telkomsel, XLSmart and Indosat.
The device also includes Apple’s N1 chip for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread. It also features Apple’s new C2 modem.
iPhone Duo Price
Apple says the iPhone Duo will soon be available in Indonesia.
It comes in two colors: star white and night sky.
Storage options include 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB.
The prices are:
- 256GB: US$1,999 (Rp34.999 million)
- 512GB: US$2,199 (Rp38.500 million)
- 1TB: US$2,599 (Rp45.503 million)
- 2TB: US$3,199 (Rp56.008 million)
Apple has yet to announce the official Indonesian sales date.
