Indigenous Landholders and Mining-Area Communities Back PT Dairi Prima Mineral Investment in Dairi

Dairi, ThedailyID — Indigenous land rights holders and communities living around the mining area have voiced support for the planned investment of PT Dairi Prima Mineral in Dairi, North Sumatra.

However, the support comes with clear conditions. Community leaders insist on strict compliance with Environmental Impact Assessment requirements, as well as firm government supervision.

In addition, the Communication Forum of Pakpak Dairi Indigenous Landholders and the Mining Ring Community Alliance expressed openness toward the company’s operations, provided that environmental standards remain fully enforced.

According to Aslim Padang, Dairi needs investment to create jobs and stimulate economic growth. He said such development would allow the government to strengthen infrastructure, agriculture, education, and socio-cultural sectors.

Moreover, he emphasized that compliance with environmental procedures is non-negotiable. He also called for strict monitoring to prevent harm to communities and the environment.

Meanwhile, Saut Martua Ujung said most residents support the company’s operational plans. Nevertheless, he stressed that economic progress must not erase Pakpak cultural identity and religious values.

Similarly, Sahbin Cibro, Chair of the Mining Ring Community Alliance, said around 4,000 residents have submitted written support urging the reissuance of the environmental permit.

Furthermore, he noted that the company has provided scholarships and social assistance programs, even before full operations begin. At the same time, he underlined that local workers should remain the top priority in recruitment.

Ultimately, community leaders hope the investment will create a balance between economic growth, environmental protection, and local wisdom in Dairi.
