Jakarta, ThedailyID — An abandoned suitcase discovered in rural Australia sparked a murder investigation after two men mistakenly believed it contained human remains.
The incident occurred on August 9 when the pair came across the unattended suitcase while driving through the countryside. Alarmed by what they thought they had found, they alerted authorities.
Police responded by assembling a team that included homicide detectives and forensic specialists to investigate the suspected crime scene.
However, forensic examinations quickly revealed there had been no homicide. Instead, the suitcase contained a highly realistic sex doll.
“At first, they were believed to be human remains,” New South Wales Police Inspector Linda Bradbury told reporters, according to AFP.
“The appearance was extremely realistic and closely resembled human body parts,” she added.
Bradbury said the doll was dressed in clothing and featured realistic details, including hair and a nose piercing. It also had marks resembling bruises and scratches, which further convinced witnesses that they had discovered a crime scene.
“The situation became even more convincing because the doll appeared to have bruising and scratch marks,” Bradbury said.
After confirming the suitcase contained no human remains, police officially closed the investigation.
