Jakarta, ThedailyID — Indonesian police say a 26-year-old man dismembered a murder victim and disposed of parts of the body in separate locations in an attempt to hide evidence of the crime.
The suspect, identified by the initial S, allegedly killed a 51-year-old man before cutting off both of the victim’s legs at the upper thighs. Police said the victim’s body was wrapped in black plastic, placed inside a rice sack, and abandoned in a vacant lot in Pancoran Mas, Depok.
According to Metro Jaya Police spokesperson Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, the suspect later threw the severed legs into a river in the Pitara area of Pancoran Mas to make them harder to recover.
The case came to light after residents discovered a suspicious sack that had been lying in the area since July 24, 2026. Believing it contained garbage, they left it untouched for days.
On August 4, 2026, a resident attempted to burn the sack. As the material melted, human remains became visible, prompting an immediate report to local authorities.
Police launched an investigation and tracked the suspect to Pandeglang, Banten, where he was arrested while allegedly attempting to flee on the morning of August 5, 2026.
Investigators are continuing to examine the motive behind the killing and the circumstances surrounding the dismemberment.
