Jakarta, ThedailyID — Ticket prices for the 2026 FIFA World Cup final between Spain and Argentina have reached record levels, making the match the most expensive sporting event in U.S. history by ticket value.
The final, scheduled for Monday (July 20) WIB at MetLife Stadium, has attracted massive demand from football fans worldwide. The matchup between two of the sport’s biggest nations has driven resale prices to unprecedented levels.
According to secondary ticket marketplace TickPick, as cited by Forbes, the cheapest resale ticket costs US$6,943, or roughly Rp125 million per person.
Although expensive, that price has fallen slightly from around Rp130.3 million immediately after Argentina defeated England in the semifinals.
Meanwhile, TickPick reported that buyers paid an average of US$11,327 (about Rp203 million) per ticket. That figure sets a new record for the highest average ticket price ever recorded for a sporting event in the United States.
The most expensive purchase came from seats in Section 115A at MetLife Stadium.
One buyer paid US$28,479 (approximately Rp511.5 million) for a single seat. A two-seat package cost US$56,958, or about Rp1.02 billion.
The new record surpasses previous highs set by major U.S. sporting events, including the Super Bowl and the NBA Finals.
Football’s global popularity has played a major role in pushing prices higher. In addition, strong demand from supporters eager to witness the Spain-Argentina showdown has fueled the surge.
Interest has also increased because Lionel Messi could make his final World Cup appearance for Argentina. The possibility of ending his international career with another world title has encouraged more fans to secure tickets despite the soaring prices.
As a result, the 2026 FIFA World Cup final now holds the record for the highest-priced sports tickets ever sold in the United States.
