Jakarta, ThedailyID — American musician Oliver Tree has died at the age of 32 following a helicopter collision in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The accident killed all six people aboard the two aircraft.
Tree, best known for hits such as Life Goes On and Miss You, was in Brazil as part of his ongoing world tour. He had recently performed in São Paulo on June 6 before traveling to Rio de Janeiro.
Brazilian authorities said two helicopters collided in midair over Rio’s western zone on Sunday morning. One aircraft carried five people, while the second carried only its pilot. There were no survivors.
Civil Police in Rio identified the victims as Oliver Tree Nickell, passengers Lucas Brito Chaves and Lucas Vignale, Argentine content creator Gaspar Prim, and pilots Alexandre Souza and Charles Marsillac.
After the collision, one helicopter crashed into a parking area containing electric vehicles. The impact triggered a fire that damaged multiple cars before emergency crews brought the blaze under control.
Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the accident. Brazil’s aviation authorities and investigators have launched a formal investigation into the crash.
Tree built a global following through his distinctive visual style and genre-blending music. His songs accumulated billions of streams across digital platforms, making him one of the most recognizable alternative artists of his generation.
The singer recently released his latest album, Love You Madly, Hate You Badly, and had dozens of tour dates scheduled across Europe, North America, and Asia later this year.
