Motor Oil Prices Surge, Auto Parts Follow as Costs Rise Across Indonesia

Jakarta, ThedailyID — Indonesian motorists are facing higher maintenance costs as motor oil prices and automotive spare parts continue to rise.

Industry players attribute the increases to global supply chain disruptions, tensions in the Middle East, and the weaker rupiah against the US dollar. As a result, many imported automotive products have become more expensive.

Several workshops reported that motor oil prices have increased by Rp15,000 to Rp20,000 per bottle over the past month. Meanwhile, some imported spare parts now cost 10% to 20% more than earlier this year.

The price hikes have also affected tires and vehicle components. According to workshop operators, replacement parts that previously sold for around Rp500,000 now cost between Rp550,000 and Rp600,000. More expensive imported components have seen even steeper increases.

As costs rise, repair shops are finding it harder to keep prices competitive. Some customers have delayed routine maintenance, while others have reduced spending on non-essential repairs.

Meanwhile, distributors have reported tighter inventories for several imported products. Lower supply volumes have added further pressure to prices in recent weeks.

The motorcycle sector has also felt the impact. Workshop owners say nearly all major oil brands have adjusted prices since the beginning of the year. Imported lubricants have recorded some of the sharpest increases.

Despite the trend, several automotive companies have temporarily kept prices unchanged. However, industry executives warn that continued currency volatility and geopolitical uncertainty could trigger additional increases in the coming months.

Analysts note that Indonesia’s automotive industry still relies heavily on imported raw materials and components. Therefore, movements in exchange rates and global commodity prices often flow directly to consumers.

For vehicle owners, the impact now extends beyond fuel costs. Routine maintenance, spare parts, tires, and lubricants are all becoming more expensive.
