Jakarta, ThedailyID — Donald Trump issued a strong warning to Oman amid growing conflict surrounding the Strait of Hormuz and ongoing negotiations involving Iran.
Trump rejected reports suggesting Iran and Oman could jointly manage shipping activities in the Strait of Hormuz as part of a potential agreement linked to regional tensions and maritime security.
Speaking during a cabinet meeting, Trump stressed that the strategic waterway must remain open for all countries because it represents international waters.
“Oman will behave just like everybody else or we’ll have to blow them up,” Trump said while responding to reporters’ questions about the issue.
The statement quickly drew global attention because Oman remains one of Washington’s key allies in the Gulf region and has often acted as a mediator between the United States and Iran.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most important shipping routes because around one-fifth of global oil and gas trade passes through the narrow waterway.
Recent reports from Iranian state media suggested Tehran and Oman discussed a framework involving joint management of shipping traffic through the strait. However, the White House denied any finalized agreement existed.
Meanwhile, tensions in the region continued escalating after the US military reportedly carried out additional strikes targeting Iranian military assets and drones near the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump also emphasized that no country should control the strategic route exclusively.
The comments came as global markets continued monitoring developments in the Gulf region because disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz could heavily affect global energy prices and international shipping.
Meanwhile, Oman has continued positioning itself as an important diplomatic mediator during negotiations involving Iran, the United States, and regional actors.
Analysts warned that increasingly aggressive rhetoric from both sides could further heighten instability across the Middle East.
