Jakarta, ThedailyID — President Prabowo Subianto carried out his fifth cabinet reshuffle on April 27, extending a series of changes that have reshaped key ministries and strategic government posts since he took office in October 2024.
The latest shake-up saw Prabowo replace or reassign six officials, including the environment minister, chief of staff, and several senior government posts. The move reinforced his willingness to recalibrate the cabinet as he enters the second half of his second year in office.
Among the changes, labor union leader Mohammad Jumhur Hidayat took over as environment minister, replacing Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, who moved into a deputy coordinating minister role focused on food affairs.
Prabowo also appointed Dudung Abdurachman as presidential chief of staff, while Muhammad Qodari moved to lead the government communications agency.
Other appointments included Abdul Kadir Karding as head of the quarantine agency and Hasan Nasbi as presidential communications adviser.
The reshuffle adds to four earlier cabinet overhauls under Prabowo, making this the fifth in roughly 15 months.
Political observers see the frequency of changes as part performance review, part consolidation strategy, as Prabowo seeks tighter control over execution in strategic sectors.
The appointment of Jumhur drew particular attention because it places a labor figure in charge of environmental policy, a move Reuters said could shape a different policy approach.
While the palace framed the changes as routine strengthening, the latest reshuffle is likely to fuel debate over whether Prabowo is preparing a broader policy reset.
The president has not publicly detailed the rationale behind each change, but repeated reshuffles have become a defining feature of his administration’s governing style.
