Jakarta, ThedailyID — Marc Márquez arrived at the Spanish Grand Prix with visible scars from his heavy crash at the Grand Prix of the Americas, as attention grows around his condition ahead of a pivotal weekend in Jerez.
Speaking on Thursday, April 23, Marquez revealed abrasions on his right arm from the high-speed COTA accident, where he crashed at around 190 km/h.
“Before it was covered, and nobody knew,” Marquez said of the injury ahead of the race weekend.
The injuries add another layer of intrigue as MotoGP heads into its European leg. The Jerez round is widely seen as a major turning point in the 2026 title fight.
Marquez has yet to score a Grand Prix podium this season. However, he said the break helped him recover physically and prepare for his home race.
Jerez also carries deep personal meaning for the Ducati rider. It was the same circuit where he suffered his career-altering arm injury in 2020. That history has made this weekend more than another race.
Ducati officials have voiced confidence over his fitness. Team management said they expect Marquez to be fully competitive in Spain despite lingering questions over his condition.
The Spaniard enters the weekend under pressure as rivals continue to challenge Ducati’s dominance. Some paddock observers see Jerez as a possible reset point for both Marquez and the championship.
“This will be an important race and test,” Marquez said ahead of the weekend, pointing to setup progress and momentum as priorities.
Beyond the title battle, the visual of Marquez showing his wounds also underscored the physical toll of MotoGP, where recovery often happens while racing continues.
Now, focus shifts to whether the eight-time world champion can turn scars into a comeback in front of a home crowd.
