Jakarta, ThedailyID — Indonesian police have seized 27 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine allegedly being transported from Aceh to Tangerang, after finding the drugs hidden inside a modified car in North Sumatra.
The seizure took place on August 14, 2026, on the Trans-Sumatra Highway in South Labuhanbatu Regency, North Sumatra.
Police said the drugs were concealed inside the rear wall of a white Mitsubishi Xpander that had been modified to hide the packages.
Two men, identified only by their initials MI, 29, and MD, 30, were arrested during the operation. Both suspects are residents of East Aceh Regency.
“Officers seized 27 kilograms of crystal meth packaged in blue wrapping featuring a goldfish and the word ‘Jinyu,’” North Sumatra Police Narcotics Investigation Director Kombes Andy Arisandi said on Tuesday, August 18.
How Police Discovered the Drugs
Police said they received information on August 14 about a suspected drug shipment traveling from North Aceh through North Sumatra.
Officers then conducted surveillance and profiling before stopping the vehicle in Kotapinang District, South Labuhanbatu.
An initial search did not uncover any drugs. Officers later discovered the 27-kilogram shipment concealed inside the rear wall of the vehicle.
Suspects Allegedly Promised Rp100 Million
According to police, the suspects told investigators that the methamphetamine was being transported to Tangerang on the orders of a person identified as P.
The suspects allegedly expected to receive Rp100 million if they successfully delivered the drugs to their destination.
“P is in East Aceh,” Arisandi said.
Police have since taken the seized drugs to the North Sumatra Police Narcotics Directorate for further examination. Authorities are also pursuing P as part of the investigation.
