Jakarta, ThedailyID — Search and rescue teams have launched an operation to find two hikers who disappeared on Mount Piramid in Bondowoso, East Java, after they failed to return from their climb.
The missing hikers are MF (51) from Surabaya and INL (35), a local mountain guide from Bondowoso. The Banyuwangi Search and Rescue Office sent its Jember rescue team to the mountain after receiving the report on Tuesday.
The pair began their hike on Saturday morning. Before climbing, they left their red motorcycle with a local resident. However, they never returned to collect it. Their disappearance soon raised concerns among residents.
Officials believe the hikers may have taken the wrong trail and become lost. After coordinating with authorities in Curahdami District, rescue teams launched a search across the mountain.
The operation brings together the Jember SAR team, the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), the Indonesian military, police, the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), local officials, volunteers, and other emergency responders.
SAR Banyuwangi chief I Made Oka Astawa said rescuers are using every available resource to locate the missing hikers. At the same time, he stressed that teams will prioritize the safety of rescue personnel while navigating the rugged terrain.
