Jakarta, ThedailyID — Attending the 2026 FIFA World Cup could cost fans tens of thousands of dollars as ticket, travel, and accommodation prices continue to rise.
A new analysis found fans could spend up to US$31,000 if they follow their national team from the group stage to the final.
The study found supporters of the Argentina national football team could face the highest costs. Long distances between host cities drive up travel expenses throughout the tournament.
Fans of the France national football team would spend about US$25,000. Many of the team’s matches are scheduled in cities closer together across the northeastern United States.
Ticket prices remain one of the biggest concerns ahead of the tournament. FIFA introduced dynamic pricing for the first time. The system allows prices to increase based on demand.
Group-stage tickets start at around US$60. However, premium seats can cost several hundred dollars. Prices rise significantly during the knockout stages.
The final at MetLife Stadium carries the highest price tag. Official tickets range from about US$2,030 to US$6,730, depending on the seating category.
Meanwhile, regulators have begun scrutinizing the rising costs. Attorneys general in New York and New Jersey recently investigated FIFA’s ticketing practices after receiving complaints about prices and seat allocations.
The 2026 World Cup will be the largest in history. The tournament will feature 48 teams and 104 matches across United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Organizers expect record attendance. However, rising costs could prevent many fans from attending football’s biggest event.
