Jakarta, ThedailyID — Applying for a visa requires careful preparation, especially when submitting documents and entering personal information. Even small mistakes can affect the outcome of an application.
According to Indonesia’s Directorate General of Immigration, applicants should check these six common reasons for visa rejection before submitting their applications.
1. Blurry or unreadable documents
Scanned documents must remain clear enough for immigration officers to review. If file compression reduces image quality, applicants can try another scanning tool or application.
2. Incomplete supporting documents
Some visa categories require additional documents beyond the standard checklist. Applicants should review all requirements for their specific visa type to ensure they submit every necessary file.
3. Insufficient passport validity
Passport validity must meet the requirements of the visa being requested. As a general guideline, a passport should remain valid for at least six months beyond the intended stay. However, applicants should check the specific rules for their visa category.
4. Failure to complete EPO or ERP procedures
Foreign nationals holding a Limited Stay Permit (ITAS) who can no longer extend it may face problems when applying for certain visas from within Indonesia. They may need to complete the Exit Permit Only (EPO) or Exit Re-Entry Permit (ERP) process at an immigration office first and include proof of completion with their application.
5. Choosing the wrong visa category
Selecting an unsuitable visa can result in rejection. For example, the C317 visa for family reunification has specific requirements concerning an applicant’s relationship with an Indonesian citizen or a foreign national holding an ITAS or Permanent Stay Permit (ITAP).
Applicants should ensure their purpose of travel and family circumstances match the requirements of their chosen visa.
6. Inconsistent information across documents
Personal information must match across all submitted documents. Applicants should double-check names, identification details, employment information, and other data in their passports, application forms, sponsorship letters, and flight tickets if uploaded.
Even minor discrepancies can affect the application process.
Before submitting a visa application, applicants should verify document quality, check supporting requirements, confirm passport validity, select the correct visa category, and ensure all information is consistent.
