Two More Indonesian Soldiers Killed in Lebanon, Israel Issues Response

Jakarta, ThedailyID — Two more Indonesian peacekeeping soldiers have been killed in Lebanon, raising the death toll among personnel deployed under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

The incident was reported on March 30, 2026, amid escalating clashes between Israel Defense Forces and Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.

Indonesian authorities confirmed the deaths, adding to earlier casualties involving peacekeepers stationed in the conflict zone in recent days.

The United Nations said it is continuing its investigation into the incident. Officials emphasized that peacekeeping personnel must not become targets in armed conflict.

“We are investigating the circumstances of the incident,” the UN said, reiterating that attacks on peacekeepers are unacceptable.

Meanwhile, Israel responded on March 30, 2026, stating that its military operations are directed at militant groups, not UN personnel.

“Israel does not target UNIFIL forces,” Israeli officials said, adding that the military is reviewing the situation following the incident.

The deaths come after Israel expanded its military operations in southern Lebanon in late March 2026 under orders from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The escalation has significantly increased risks for international peacekeepers deployed along the border.

UNIFIL troops are tasked with monitoring hostilities and maintaining stability in southern Lebanon. However, the worsening conflict has raised concerns over their safety.

Analysts warn that continued clashes could further endanger UN personnel and widen the regional conflict.

The situation remains fluid as both sides continue military activities in the area.
