Jakarta, ThedailyID — US President Donald Trump has gained weight in recent years, prompting some doctors to discuss the potential health risks linked to obesity.
Trump weighed 238 pounds, or about 108 kilograms, during his medical examination in May 2026. That figure marked a 14-pound increase from his previous medical exam in 2025.
His weight also stood 23 pounds above the 215-pound figure listed in his 2023 Georgia booking record. However, The Washington Post noted that the source of the 2023 figure remains unclear.
Dr. Scott Kahan, director of the National Center for Weight and Wellness, said obesity can increase the risk of several health problems.
“We know that obesity is a strong risk factor for numerous health issues, as well as premature disability and death,” Kahan told The Washington Post.
Kahan said addressing obesity should remain a priority for protecting the president’s health. His comments came as doctors discussed Trump’s recent weight gain.
Trump’s May medical report also showed a body mass index of 29.7. That figure falls within the overweight range and sits just below the commonly used obesity threshold of 30.
Trump’s doctors have advised him to improve his diet, increase physical activity, and continue losing weight. The May report also said his cognitive and physical performance remained excellent.
Trump has often spoken about his preference for fast food. He has also joked about his limited exercise routine, while golf remains one of his regular physical activities.
His health has drawn public attention for other reasons as well. Previous reports discussed bruising on his hands and swelling in his lower legs.
The White House physician attributed the hand bruising to frequent handshaking and aspirin use. The medical report also noted slight swelling in Trump’s lower legs and said the condition had improved from the previous year.
Trump previously received a diagnosis of chronic venous insufficiency, a condition that can cause blood to pool in the legs. His doctors have continued to monitor the condition.
The White House has rejected concerns about Trump’s overall health. Spokesperson Davis Ingle said Trump remains in excellent health and highlighted his energy and work schedule.
Trump’s latest medical report involved 22 specialists. His physician said the team conducted a comprehensive preventive evaluation and found strong cardiac, pulmonary, neurological, and overall physical function.
