Tropical Cyclone Mekkhala Triggers Heavy Rain Across Parts of Indonesia

Jakarta, ThedailyID — Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has warned that Tropical Cyclone Mekkhala could affect weather conditions across several parts of the country. While the cyclone is not expected to make landfall in Indonesia, it may trigger heavy rain, strong winds, and high waves in multiple regions.

BMKG said the cyclone formed over the South China Sea and continues moving northward. Its circulation is expected to strengthen weather activity around Indonesia, especially in western and central regions.

Several provinces could experience moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds. The affected areas include North Sumatra, Riau Islands, Bangka Belitung Islands, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, North Sulawesi, Gorontalo, Central Sulawesi, and parts of Maluku.

The agency also warned of rough sea conditions in several Indonesian waters. Fishermen, shipping operators, and coastal communities should remain alert as wave heights may increase due to stronger wind patterns.

BMKG urged residents in vulnerable areas to stay updated through official weather forecasts. Local governments also continue monitoring conditions to anticipate possible flooding, landslides, and other weather-related disasters.

Although Tropical Cyclone Mekkhala is developing outside Indonesian territory, its indirect effects could still disrupt daily activities and transportation in several regions. Authorities advised the public to remain cautious, particularly when traveling or carrying out activities at sea.

BMKG emphasized that weather conditions can change quickly during the cyclone’s development. The agency will continue issuing updates as the system moves across the region.
