Three Premier League Giants Suffer Shock Defeats in Opening Week

Jakarta, ThedailyID — Three major Premier League clubs suffered defeats in the opening week, with Manchester United, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur all starting their campaigns with losses.

Manchester United, who finished third last season, suffered a surprising 2-0 defeat to newly promoted Hull City at MKM Stadium on Saturday (22/08).

The Red Devils struggled throughout the match. Semi Ajayi and Nobel Mendy scored in the first half to secure Hull’s victory.

Aston Villa also endured a heavy defeat when they visited Brighton at the Amex Stadium on Sunday (23/08). The Europa League champions were thrashed 4-0, with Brighton scoring all four goals before halftime.

Villa’s task became even harder after Joao Gomes received a red card in the 40th minute. Brighton, however, failed to add another goal after the break.

The result puts pressure on manager Unai Emery. Speculation surrounding Ollie Watkins’ future has also added uncertainty, with the striker reportedly considering a move to a Saudi Arabian club.

Tottenham Hotspur were the third major club to suffer a poor result. Spurs lost 3-0 to Brentford, raising early concerns about their hopes of returning to the top end of the Premier League.
