Jakarta, ThedailyID — Spain’s official social media accounts appeared to omit U.S. President Donald Trump from photos celebrating the team’s FIFA World Cup 2026 triumph after defeating Argentina in the final on July 19.
Trump and FIFA President Gianni Infantino presented the World Cup trophy to Spain captain Rodri during the post-match ceremony. However, photos shared on Spain’s official Instagram and X accounts showed only the players celebrating on the podium.
The published images appeared tightly cropped, leaving Trump and Infantino outside the frame. Wider broadcast footage from the trophy presentation showed both officials remaining on stage after handing over the trophy.
The photos quickly drew attention on social media because television replays captured Trump standing beside the Spanish players moments before they lifted the trophy.
In the broadcast, Rodri appeared to gesture as if waiting for Trump to step aside before the team celebrated together. Shortly afterward, Infantino also appeared to encourage the U.S. president to leave the center of the stage.
Neither the Spanish Football Federation nor FIFA has commented on whether the images were intentionally cropped.
A similar moment occurred after the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup final, when Trump remained on stage during Chelsea’s trophy celebration. Television footage showed captain Reece James looking uncertain, while teammate Cole Palmer appeared surprised as Trump stayed with the squad during the celebrations.
The apparent omission from Spain’s official celebration photos has since sparked widespread discussion online, although neither Spain nor FIFA has publicly addressed the decision.
