Jakarta, ThedailyID — Celebrations erupted across Paris after Paris Saint-Germain defeated Arsenal F.C. in the 2026 UEFA Champions League final.
Thousands of supporters poured into the streets to mark PSG’s historic European triumph. However, celebrations quickly spiraled into chaos as riots, vandalism, and clashes with police broke out overnight.
French authorities reported hundreds of arrests after crowds gathered around major landmarks, including the Champs-Élysées, Arc de Triomphe, and Parc des Princes.
Videos shared online showed burning vehicles, damaged shops, and fireworks aimed at police officers. Authorities responded by deploying riot-control units and using tear gas to disperse the crowds.
According to French media reports, police made more than 400 arrests nationwide. Most of the arrests occurred in Paris, where officials had already deployed thousands of officers ahead of the final.
Authorities increased security measures before the match due to concerns that large-scale celebrations could trigger unrest if PSG secured the club’s long-awaited Champions League title.
Several commercial areas also suffered damage during the disturbances. Some businesses had boarded up storefronts before the final as a precaution against potential violence.
Despite PSG’s landmark victory on the pitch, scenes of disorder and clashes across the French capital dominated headlines in the hours following the final whistle.
Officials continue to assess the damage and investigate incidents linked to the unrest.
