Prabowo to Corrupt Officials: "Be Aware, Stop Your Practices"

Jakarta, ThedailyID — President Prabowo Subianto renewed his warning to corrupt officials on Sunday, urging them to stop corrupt practices and return state funds taken from the public.

Speaking at Indonesia’s 79th National Cooperatives Day celebration in Jakarta on July 12, Prabowo said corrupt officials should take responsibility before facing tougher consequences.

“I have warned you many times. Hey, corrupt officials, be aware. Stop your practices. The people are not foolish. Stop,” Prabowo said.

He urged those involved in corruption to return public assets, saying Indonesians are forgiving but still expect justice.

“Return the people’s wealth. Return it properly. We are a forgiving nation, but the people need justice,” he said.

Prabowo stressed that state funds should improve public welfare instead of enriching individuals. He said the government should use public money to build better schools and improve salaries for teachers, healthcare workers, military personnel, police officers, and civil servants.

“Our people deserve good schools. Teachers, doctors, nurses, soldiers, police officers, and civil servants deserve decent salaries,” he said. “That will reduce the temptation for corruption and abuse of power.”

The president also pledged to reform Indonesia’s state-owned enterprises (SOEs), arguing that many corruption cases have originated within those companies.

“We will put state-owned enterprises in order. For too long, they have become a source of corruption,” Prabowo said.
