Jakarta, ThedailyID — Police revealed disturbing new details in the murder case of a sixth-grade elementary school student in Makassar after investigators arrested a 19-year-old suspect identified as Ikmal.
Makassar Police Chief Arya Perdana said the suspect allegedly consumed methamphetamine, locally known as sabu-sabu, after committing the crime early in the morning.
“After carrying out the act, around 5 a.m., the suspect used meth again,” Arya said on Thursday.
Police also stated that the suspect frequently watched pornographic content. Investigators suspect the habit may have influenced the alleged sexual violence against the victim before her death.
According to Arya, the suspect had reportedly targeted the victim for some time before the incident happened.
Investigators said the suspect approached the victim while she was walking alone. He then asked her to buy food and drinks.
When the victim returned, the suspect allegedly dragged her into an abandoned house.
Police said the suspect covered the victim’s mouth and repeatedly slammed her head because she resisted.
Authorities found the victim dead at the scene without clothing. Officers also discovered a television placed on top of the victim’s head inside the abandoned building.
Investigators suspect the suspect slammed the victim’s head against a wall during the assault.
Police later noticed suspicious behavior from the suspect while officers processed the crime scene.
According to Arya, the suspect intentionally caused a disturbance near the location. He allegedly tried to distract officers and shift attention away from himself.
However, investigators eventually became suspicious because of his behavior. Police later identified him as the alleged perpetrator.
Meanwhile, officers continue investigating the source of the illegal drugs allegedly consumed by the suspect.
The case sparked outrage and grief among residents because of the victim’s young age and the brutality of the crime.
Authorities charged the suspect under Articles 459 and 458 of Indonesia’s Criminal Code. The charges carry a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison or the death penalty.
