Jakarta, ThedailyID — Police have arrested three suspects following a fatal assault during a street clash in Menteng, Central Jakarta, that left one person dead on Sunday, July 26.
Central Jakarta Police Chief Senior Commissioner Reynold E.P. Hutagalung identified the suspects by their initials S, T, and U. The three are being held at the Menteng Police Station for further questioning.
“Three individuals involved in the assault, identified as S, T, and U, have been secured at Menteng Police Station,” Reynold said.
According to police, the victim, identified as K, 23, was taken to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM) along with another injured person, identified as DS. K later died from his injuries.
Investigators are also examining allegations that several people vandalised a street food vendor’s cart and assaulted local residents before the confrontation escalated into a deadly clash.
Police said around 15 people have been questioned as part of the investigation. Authorities are separating witnesses, victims, and suspects based on their alleged involvement in different incidents linked to the violence.
“We are separating the incidents in Matraman, Matraman Dalam, and Jalan Tambak. Anyone identified as a suspect will be held accountable for their actions,” Reynold said.
According to police, the violence began after a dispute near a nasi uduk street food cart in the Matraman Dalam area. The argument later escalated into retaliatory attacks in Jalan Tambak, resulting in one fatality.
The investigation is ongoing as police continue to determine each individual’s role in the incident.
