Jakarta, ThedailyID — Police uncovered an illegal motorcycle syndicate in South Jakarta and seized 1,494 vehicles during a large-scale operation targeting suspected receivers of stolen motorcycles.
Investigators from Polda Metro Jaya said the operation focused on illegal motorcycle storage and dismantling sites operating in several areas across South Jakarta.
Authorities also confiscated hundreds of motorcycle engines, vehicle frames, and spare parts believed to originate from stolen vehicles.
Police suspect the syndicate altered vehicle identities before reselling the motorcycles or distributing the parts to black market networks.
Officials said the investigation began after officers traced several stolen motorcycle reports linked to suspicious workshops and warehouses.
During the raids, police discovered many vehicles without official ownership documents. Investigators also found signs that some motorcycles had undergone illegal modifications to conceal their origins.
The operation resulted in the seizure of 1,494 motorcycles, making it one of the largest illegal vehicle crackdowns in the capital this year.
Police are currently examining the ownership status of the confiscated vehicles. Authorities plan to match engine and chassis numbers with stolen vehicle databases.
Investigators also continue searching for other individuals connected to the syndicate, including suppliers and buyers.
Police urged residents to remain cautious when purchasing used motorcycles at unusually low prices. Authorities warned that many stolen vehicles circulate through informal markets without proper verification.
The case remains under investigation as officers work to uncover the wider distribution network behind the illegal operation.
