Bandung Police Traffic Unit investigator Iptu Lilim confirmed that the bus carried a group of women who had just completed their Umrah pilgrimage.

“Yes, it was a single-vehicle accident. It happened at around 1 a.m. Yes, it was an Umrah group bus,” Lilim said, according to detikJabar.

The bus, registered as B-7858-ZAA, was traveling from Bandung toward Tasikmalaya when the accident occurred.

Lilim said the driver lost concentration while driving downhill. The bus then swerved to the right and hit a wall surrounding a house.

“While traveling downhill, the driver was less focused and alert to the situation ahead. As a result, the vehicle swerved to the right and hit the wall of a house,” Lilim said.

The impact killed LS and injured several other passengers. Authorities took the victims to a nearby hospital after the crash.

“At the scene, one victim died and was taken to Cicalengka Regional Hospital. The victim has now been taken by the family. The passengers with minor injuries have also returned home,” Lilim said.

The Bandung Search and Rescue Office received the accident report at 1:55 a.m. Rescue personnel then headed to the scene to assist with the evacuation.

“After receiving information about the incident, the Bandung SAR Office rescue team was immediately dispatched to the scene to support the evacuation process,” said Bandung SAR Office Chief Ade Dian Permana.

Rescuers found LS trapped inside the damaged bus. A joint team later freed her from the wreckage at around 3 a.m.

“The trapped victim, a woman identified by the initials LS, died and was successfully evacuated at 3 a.m. We extend our deepest condolences to the victim’s family,” Ade said.

According to final data from Indonesia’s National Search and Rescue Agency, 14 people were involved in the accident. Thirteen people survived, while one passenger died.

All surviving passengers have since returned to their respective homes.
