Jakarta, ThedailyID — Yair Netanyahu, the son of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has been evacuated from Florida to Israel over a reported assassination threat allegedly linked to Iran.
Israel’s security agency, Shin Bet, confirmed the evacuation after assessing the threat to Yair’s safety. He returned to Israel with his security team.
“There is indeed a serious threat endangering Yair Netanyahu’s safety. Therefore, following a situation assessment, it was decided to immediately evacuate him and his security team back to Israel,” Shin Bet said, according to The Jerusalem Post, Sunday (30/08).
Newsmax first reported the alleged Iranian threat on Tuesday. The outlet cited US law enforcement sources familiar with the situation.
According to the report, Israeli intelligence detected an alleged Iranian plot to kill Yair in Florida in December. Israeli authorities reportedly warned their US counterparts about the threat.
The US sources also claimed that Iranian agents had entered the Miami area. They allegedly surveilled Yair’s residence and movements.
Yair, who is accompanied by an Israeli security team, was subsequently ordered to leave the area. He reportedly returned to Israel without taking his belongings.
Benjamin Netanyahu also addressed the alleged threat in an interview with Channel 14 last week. However, he did not specify which of his two sons Iran had allegedly targeted.
“There is something unimaginable here. Iran is targeting one of my sons. Iran is trying to kill him, trying to kill one of my sons,” Netanyahu said.
Yair is currently staying in Israel following the evacuation. Shin Bet has not publicly provided further details about the alleged plot or the identities of those behind the threat.
