Jakarta, ThedailyID — Egypt came from behind to defeat New Zealand 3-1 in a Group G match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Sunday, June 21 (Monday WIB), at BC Place in Vancouver.
New Zealand took an early lead in the 15th minute through Finn Surman, who headed home from a corner to give the All Whites a 1-0 advantage before halftime.
Egypt responded strongly after the break. Mostafa Zaky (Zico) equalized in the 59th minute with a powerful header before Mohamed Salah completed the turnaround nine minutes later, calmly finishing a pass from Zico to make it 2-1.
The Pharaohs sealed the victory in the 82nd minute when Mahmoud Hassan “Trezeguet” headed in from Salah’s corner kick, giving the Liverpool star both a goal and an assist.
The comeback victory temporarily moved Egypt to the top of Group G with four points, while Belgium and Iran each have two points. New Zealand remains at the bottom of the standings.
