Jakarta, ThedailyID — Lionel Messi scored again for Inter Miami, but his team settled for a 2-2 draw against Philadelphia Union in a heated MLS match at Subaru Park on August 20.
Philadelphia took the lead in the 11th minute when Indiana Vassilev scored with a volley. Inter Miami responded 10 minutes later through Daniel Pinter after a move started by Messi’s cross.
Messi then put Inter Miami ahead in the 26th minute with a curling left-footed finish. The goal added to his strong season, with Messi reaching 13 goals and nine assists in 17 appearances.
Philadelphia equalized in the 58th minute when Neil Pierre headed the ball into the net.
The hosts appeared to score again four minutes later through Milan Iloski, but the goal was ruled out after Pierre was judged to be offside.
The match ended in chaos when players from both teams became involved in a confrontation. Inter Miami’s Yannick Bright and Philadelphia’s Cavan Sullivan were both shown red cards after becoming involved in a physical altercation.
The draw leaves Inter Miami with 39 points, keeping them second in the Eastern Conference. Philadelphia Union sit 13th with 20 points.
