Jakarta, ThedailyID — Lionel Messi and Enzo Fernández celebrated Argentina’s dramatic victory over England in very different ways after securing a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final.
Argentina came from behind to beat England 2-1 at Atlanta Stadium in the United States on Thursday (July 16) morning WIB, booking consecutive appearances in the World Cup final.
Moments after American referee Ismail Elfath blew the final whistle, Messi dropped to his knees on the pitch.
The Argentina captain then shouted three times in celebration before teammates rushed over to embrace him.
Meanwhile, Enzo Fernández struggled to hold back his emotions.
The midfielder, who scored Argentina’s equalizer, burst into tears and raised his hands toward the sky in a gesture of gratitude.
Messi and Enzo both played crucial roles in Argentina’s comeback victory.
However, Lautaro Martínez sealed the win with a dramatic stoppage-time goal after converting Messi’s cross.
The victory sends La Albiceleste into the World Cup final, where they will face Spain on Sunday (July 19) local time, or Monday (July 20) early morning WIB.
