Marc Guehi Admits England Can't Stop Haaland Ahead of World Cup Quarterfinal

Jakarta, ThedailyID — England defender Marc Guehi admits there is no guaranteed way to stop Erling Haaland ahead of Sunday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup quarterfinal against Norway.

Haaland enters the match as Norway’s biggest attacking threat after enjoying a prolific debut World Cup campaign. The Manchester City striker has scored seven goals, matching France’s Kylian Mbappe and trailing Argentina captain Lionel Messi by just one goal in the tournament’s scoring race.

“Simply put, the answer is you can’t,” Guehi told Express when asked how England could stop Haaland.

However, the England international believes his team can limit the striker’s influence by cutting off the service he receives from teammates.

“The most effective and practical approach is to stop the supply of passes to him and limit his touches and the space he has to operate,” Guehi said.

“That forces him to drop deeper into areas where his chances of scoring become much more limited.”

England and Norway will meet at Miami Stadium in the United States early Sunday, July 12 (WIB), with a place in the World Cup semifinals at stake.

The winner will face either Argentina or Switzerland, who meet in the other quarterfinal.
