Jakarta, ThedailyID — At least one person died and three others were injured after a helicopter crashed in suburban Los Angeles on Tuesday, according to fire officials.
The aircraft went down between two commercial buildings in the Chatsworth neighborhood, a Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) spokesperson told the BBC.
The crash occurred shortly before 7 p.m. local time near Lurline Avenue and Nordhoff Street.
Footage from the scene showed two shipping containers and several vehicles on fire. Firefighters later extinguished the blaze.
LAFD Captain Branden Silverman said one person was found outside the helicopter after the crash.
“We do have one confirmed patient that seemed to be outside of the helicopter when it crashed,” Silverman told CBS, Wednesday, September 16.
“That person was declared deceased on scene. At this point, we have not confirmed how many victims, or how many people, were inside the helicopter,” he added.
Three other people suffered injuries in the incident, according to the LAFD.
Authorities have not immediately confirmed who operated the helicopter. Local media reports suggested it may have been a news helicopter flying near the site of a fatal bus crash.
The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed that the aircraft did not belong to the department.
The crash occurred in a commercial area, where the impact also caused fires involving nearby vehicles and shipping containers.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will lead the investigation. Authorities have yet to determine what caused the crash.
