Jakarta, ThedailyID — The Kementerian Komunikasi dan Digital Republik Indonesia (Komdigi) and Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison (Indosat or IOH) officially introduced Sahabat-AI, an AI-based application platform aimed at advancing Indonesia’s sovereign and inclusive AI ecosystem. Designed specifically for Indonesia, the platform is open and accessible to students, creators, businesses, and public institutions. Sahabat-AI is positioned not only as a technology innovation but also as a digital companion that understands the way Indonesians speak, live, and connect.
Now available on Android and iOS, Sahabat-AI lowers barriers to AI adoption across the country. The platform offers multi-model and multi-modal capabilities, enabling users to seamlessly move from text to image, text to video, smart search, coding assistance, and in-depth analysis within a single integrated interface. This integration allows users from various backgrounds to apply AI in practical and relevant ways.
Branded as “The Most Indonesian AI,” Sahabat-AI is built upon Indonesia’s linguistic diversity, cultural values, and local context, while being supported by global-standard technology. The platform aims to deliver AI that feels closer and more relevant to everyday life across the archipelago.
Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid said Sahabat-AI reflects Indonesia’s strategic direction in strengthening national AI capabilities. She emphasized that the platform supports digital sovereignty and ensures no one is left behind in digital transformation. According to her, technology should expand access regardless of language or cultural differences, and Sahabat-AI represents Indonesia’s ability to develop relevant and beneficial technology for its people.
Sahabat-AI is the result of cross-sector collaboration within Indonesia’s national ecosystem. By placing local needs and values at its core, the platform is expected to strengthen Indonesia’s position in making AI a national development priority and a tool for public empowerment.
To ensure safe and responsible use, Sahabat-AI is built with layered guardrails aligned with Indonesia’s social norms, cultural values, and ethical standards. The system supports government efforts to combat harmful content and maintain a healthy digital space, while allowing innovation to continue responsibly.
Vikram Sinha, President Director and Chief Executive Officer of Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, said the launch reflects Indosat’s broader mission to empower Indonesia. He noted that Sahabat-AI is designed not for the company, but for the country, providing an open and accessible foundation for innovation that can be utilized by individuals, startups, businesses, and public institutions nationwide.
