Jakarta, ThedailyID — Jakarta recorded 457 fire incidents from July to August 2026, Governor Pramono Anung said on Wednesday (02/09/26).
Pramono cited data from the Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD). August alone accounted for around 240 incidents.
“Based on reports from the Regional Disaster Management Agency, there were 457 fires in Jakarta from July to August,” Pramono said at the National Monument (Monas) field in Central Jakarta, Wednesday (02/09/26)
West Jakarta recorded the highest number of fires, followed by East Jakarta. Pramono identified Tambora in West Jakarta and Cakung in East Jakarta as areas with particularly high fire risks.
Electrical short circuits remained the most common suspected cause. Other causes included burning garbage and carelessly discarded cigarette butts.
Pramono also warned that prolonged dry weather could increase the risk of fires. Hot and dry conditions pose a greater threat to densely populated residential areas.
“Dry season conditions, with increasingly hot and dry weather, increase the risk of fires, especially in densely populated residential areas,” he said.
As a preventive measure, Pramono instructed every neighborhood association (RW) to have at least one fire extinguisher (APAR). He said the program had already begun and expressed confidence that RWs across Jakarta now had access to the equipment.
The governor urged residents to remain alert, particularly during the prolonged dry season.
