Jakarta, ThedailyID — Indonesia’s House of Representatives, or DPR, officially passed the Employment Protection Bill into law on Tuesday, October 6, 2026.
The decision was made during the ninth plenary meeting of the first session of the 2026-2027 parliamentary year. DPR Speaker Puan Maharani chaired the meeting.
All eight DPR factions agreed to approve the bill. Worker representatives also attended the plenary session.
Puan said representatives from the Koalisi Buruh Perjuangan Buruh Indonesia and the Confederation of All-Indonesian Workers’ Unions were present in the gallery.
“On this occasion, representatives of the workers’ coalition and the Confederation of All-Indonesian Workers’ Unions are already present in the gallery,” Puan said.
Deputy Chair of Commission IX Putih Sari then delivered the working committee’s report before Puan asked lawmakers for approval.
“Can the Draft Law on Employment Protection be approved to become law?” Puan asked.
“Agreed,” the lawmakers responded.
The working committee said the bill contains 23 chapters and 313 articles. It covers employment relations, foreign workers and wage regulations.
The Employment Protection Bill also follows Constitutional Court Decision No. 168/PUU-XXI/2023. The court had called on lawmakers and the government to create a separate employment law.
The decision also addressed employment provisions that had been included in the Job Creation Omnibus Law. With the DPR’s approval, the Employment Protection Bill has now officially become law.
