Indonesian Government Still Covers Full Salaries for National Internship Program 2026

Jakarta, ThedailyID — The Indonesian government confirmed that salaries for participants in the 2026 National Internship Program, or Program Magang Nasional, will remain fully funded by the state.

The policy came from Indonesia’s Ministry of Manpower, locally known as Kementerian Ketenagakerjaan (Kemnaker). Through the scheme, companies participating in the internship program will not need to cover participant salaries because the government will continue handling the payments.

Officials said the program aims to expand employment opportunities while improving workforce readiness among young Indonesians. In addition, the initiative seeks to strengthen cooperation between educational institutions, industries, and the government.

Through the program, participants can gain direct professional experience and practical workplace skills. Meanwhile, companies can support workforce development without facing additional salary expenses.

Kemnaker explained that the internship initiative remains part of broader government efforts to reduce unemployment and improve labor competitiveness in Indonesia. The ministry also hopes the program can help students and fresh graduates adapt more quickly to industry demands.

According to reports, the 2026 Program Magang Nasional will continue involving multiple industries and business sectors across the country. Participants are also expected to receive training, mentorship, and direct workplace experience during the internship period.

Meanwhile, the government continues evaluating the program to improve effectiveness and create stronger employment opportunities after internships end.

Several businesses previously welcomed the policy because it encouraged more companies to participate in internship partnerships. Education and labor observers also viewed the program as an important bridge between academic learning and professional work environments.

However, some experts reminded the government to maintain strong supervision and quality standards during implementation. They emphasized that internship participants should receive meaningful work experience instead of only handling administrative tasks.

The Program Magang Nasional has become one of the government’s major workforce preparation initiatives in recent years. Authorities expect the 2026 program to continue supporting youth employment and national workforce development.
