Jakarta, ThedailyID — Indonesia could become the first team to secure a place in the 2026 AFF Championship semifinals when it faces Vietnam on Monday, August 3.
The Group A clash will take place at Pakansari Stadium in Bogor, with Indonesia entering the match after winning its opening two games.
The Garuda defeated Cambodia 5-1 before beating Timor-Leste 3-0. Those victories gave Indonesia six points and second place in the standings.
Singapore currently leads Group A with seven points, while Vietnam sits third with three points.
A victory over Vietnam would lift Indonesia to nine points and guarantee a semifinal berth. Vietnam could then finish with a maximum of seven points, even if it defeats Cambodia in its final group match on August 7.
If that happens, Indonesia would also become the first team to qualify for the tournament’s last four.
No team has secured a semifinal place so far. In Group B, Thailand and Malaysia lead with six points each, while Myanmar and the Philippines, both on three points, remain in contention.
The final Group B qualifiers will be decided on August 8. Thailand will host Myanmar, while Malaysia will face the Philippines at home.
