Jakarta, ThedailyID — Villagers in Uttar Pradesh, India, allegedly tied a telecom technician to a cell tower after growing frustrated with poor mobile and internet connectivity.
The incident happened in Hardauli village, Fatehpur district, on Thursday, September 10, 2026. The technician, identified as Aditya Bhan Singh, was working at a telecommunications tower when residents allegedly surrounded and detained him.
A video circulating on social media shows villagers restraining Singh before tying him to the tower with a rope. Several residents, including children, were seen watching the incident.
Police later arrived and freed the technician. According to police, residents complained that their mobile network had remained unreliable for nearly two years despite the installation of a private telecommunications tower.
Residents said the signal often disappeared even when electricity was available. As a result, they struggled to make calls and access the internet.
Some villagers also claimed they had paid for 5G data packages but could only access unstable 4G connectivity.
The residents allegedly tied Singh to the tower to send a message to senior company officials. They reportedly wanted company representatives to visit the village and address the network problems.
Singh had reportedly joined the telecommunications company around three months earlier. The visit was also his first trip to the village.
Police later registered a case following Singh’s complaint. Seven men were identified as allegedly being involved in the incident, while six were arrested.
The six suspects were brought before a judge and later released on bail.
