Jakarta, ThedailyID — The Indonesia Stock Exchange Composite Index (IHSG) closed higher at 6,599 on Tuesday (September 1), gaining 74.46 points or 1.14% from the previous trading session.
According to RTI Infokom, investors recorded transactions worth Rp20.73 trillion, with 59.69 billion shares changing hands. A total of 407 stocks advanced, while 215 declined and 169 remained unchanged.
Nine of the 11 sectoral indices closed in positive territory. The industrial sector led the gains, rising 3.77%, while the basic materials sector was the weakest performer, slipping 0.31%.
The Indonesian market’s gains came despite a largely negative performance across major Asian markets. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Composite fell 0.93%, Japan’s Nikkei 225 dropped 2.79%, Singapore’s Straits Times declined 0.98%, and China’s Shanghai Composite edged down 0.16%.
European markets also moved lower, with Germany’s DAX falling 1.07% and the UK’s FTSE 100 declining 1.11%. US markets were similarly dominated by losses, as the S&P 500 slipped 0.33%, the Nasdaq Composite fell 0.12%, and the Dow Jones dropped 0.70%.
Despite the broader global weakness, IHSG managed to start September on a positive note, supported by gains across most domestic sectors.
The strong session also marked a broad-based advance, with nearly twice as many stocks gaining as declining. The movement comes as investors continue to monitor global market conditions and developments that could influence sentiment toward Indonesian equities.
