Hotel Sultan Eviction Turns Chaotic as Protesters Throw Stones at Officers

Jakarta, ThedailyID — The execution of a court-ordered eviction at Hotel Sultan in Central Jakarta turned chaotic on Thursday after a group of protesters threw stones, bottles, and other objects at security officers.

Authorities deployed personnel to secure the eviction process following a court ruling related to the ownership dispute over the hotel complex. However, tensions escalated as demonstrators attempted to block the operation.

According to authorities, protesters hurled stones, glass bottles, wooden sticks, and other objects at officers. In response, security personnel used shields and crowd-control measures to push the crowd back and secure the area.

Moreover, officers urged protesters to remain calm and avoid violent actions during the operation. Security forces also worked to prevent the clashes from spreading beyond the hotel compound.

The Hotel Sultan land dispute has continued for years between the Indonesian government and the hotel’s management. The government maintains that the land belongs to the state under the management of the Gelora Bung Karno Complex Management Center (PPKGBK), while the hotel operator has challenged the government’s claims through legal proceedings.

Authorities said the eviction proceeded under a legally binding court order. Meanwhile, officials continued monitoring the situation to maintain public order and ensure the operation could continue safely.
