Google Tests Gmail Live, Letting Users Search Emails With Their Voice

Jakarta, ThedailyID — Google is testing Gmail Live, a new Gemini-powered feature that lets users search their inbox with voice commands. The company has started rolling out the feature to a limited number of Android and iOS users.

Google first introduced Gmail Live at Google I/O 2026. The latest rollout suggests a public release is getting closer.

According to Digital Trends, Gmail Live adds a microphone icon to Gmail’s search bar. Users simply tap the icon to activate voice search. A full-screen interface then opens with suggested prompts, including questions about recent orders or upcoming travel plans.

As users speak, Gmail Live converts their words into text in real time. A blue light animation also appears around the screen during the conversation.

The AI then searches the inbox and generates an answer. It reads the response aloud while displaying the related email on screen. As a result, users can quickly verify information without scrolling through dozens of messages.

The interface also includes two buttons at the bottom. One mutes the microphone, while the other exits Gmail Live and returns users to the standard inbox.

Google plans to release Gmail Live to Gemini Advanced (AI Pro Ultra) subscribers after completing the testing phase.

The feature is part of Google’s broader push into voice-powered AI. Earlier this year, the company expanded Gemini Live, which allows users to hold natural conversations with its AI assistant. Users can also create reminders, schedule calendar events, and complete everyday tasks through voice commands.

In addition, Google launched Search Live in AI Mode. The feature lets users ask follow-up questions by voice and receive spoken answers alongside relevant web links.

Google is also exploring similar capabilities for Google Docs and Google Keep. Those features would allow users to dictate documents, capture ideas, and manage notes using natural speech.
