Jakarta, ThedailyID — Gen Z creators are turning road safety messages into short films and social media content through the “Stay Alive for The Next Chapter” campaign.
The initiative, launched by the Astra Honda Motor (AHM) Foundation and Katadata, aims to make road safety messages more relatable to young people. The campaign was unveiled at Jakarta State University (UNJ) on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.
Instead of relying on conventional safety lectures, the campaign invited Gen Z creators to produce short films and videos for Instagram, TikTok and YouTube.
The campaign received 340 submissions between May and July 2026. Together, the content generated more than 1.7 million views across the three platforms.
“Building a culture of safety is no easy task; it requires collaboration and continuous effort,” AHM Foundation Chairman Ahmad Muhibbuddin said on September 9.
He said the short film contest aimed to expand the reach of road safety messages among social media users.
The campaign comes as Indonesia continues to face a serious road safety challenge. Korlantas Polri recorded more than 152,000 traffic accidents in 2024, resulting in over 27,000 deaths.
Motorcycles were involved in more than 200,000 instances. Meanwhile, drivers aged 6 to 25 accounted for 39.48 percent of the recorded crashes.
Sri Indira Purnamawati, Head of Public Education at the Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police, said many dangerous incidents begin with seemingly minor decisions.
“Many skip helmets because they think it looks uncool, feels bothersome, or assume they are only going a short distance,” Indira said.
She added that law enforcement must continue alongside public education to build safer habits.
Among the winning entries was a short film by Fahri, a creator from Depok. He won the general category with a film highlighting the risks of using a phone while driving.
“I wanted to voice that frustration visually, packaging the message subtly so it stays relevant to young people,” Fahri said.
Meanwhile, Iqbal Bahi from Asia Cyber University won the student category with Pulang dengan Selamat (Arrive Home Safely). He described the award as an opportunity to promote road safety among fellow students.
UNJ also emphasized the role of educational institutions in building safer habits. Hadi Nasbey, Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at UNJ, said universities should foster a culture of care for drivers and other road users.
