Jakarta, ThedailyID — SpaceX CEO Elon Musk says the company’s artificial intelligence business could generate up to US$500 billion in annual revenue as its computing capacity expands.
SpaceX aims to operate 10 gigawatts (GW) of AI computing capacity by the end of 2027. That would mark a major increase from its current capacity of around 1.4 GW.
Musk said the company could generate between US$30 and US$50 in value per watt.
“The value per watt may be in the range of US$30 to US$50, which means if we operate 10 gigawatts of AI by the end of next year, the revenue would reach US$300 billion to US$500 billion per year,” he said.
Based on an exchange rate of US$1 to Rp17,823, the projection equals roughly Rp5,346.9 trillion to Rp8,911.5 trillion annually.
Musk also expects AI to become SpaceX’s dominant revenue source. He said AI revenue could surpass the company’s other revenue streams as early as September 2026.
“AI has become a very important part of SpaceX’s future,” Musk said.
SpaceX is best known for its Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy rockets, Dragon spacecraft and Starship. However, AI now plays an increasingly important role in Musk’s plans for the company.
Earlier this year, SpaceX acquired xAI, the AI company Musk founded in 2023. xAI develops the Grok chatbot and operates the Colossus supercomputer cluster in Tennessee.
Musk expects that transformation to continue over the next several years.
“Maybe in four or five years, AI will be 99 percent of SpaceX’s value. Five years, I’m sure,” he said.
Meanwhile, SpaceX plans to build a semiconductor manufacturing complex called Terafab in Texas with Tesla. The facility is designed to produce advanced chips for various applications.
The company also plans to launch one million AI satellites called Starmind into low Earth orbit using Starship. Longer term, Musk has discussed building a factory on the Moon to support data centers beyond Earth.
