Dubai Airport Launches 3-Second AI Immigration Corridor for Travelers

Jakarta, ThedailyID — Dubai International Airport (DXB) has introduced an AI-powered immigration system that allows eligible travelers to pass through border control without showing a passport or boarding pass.

The airport calls the new service the Red Carpet Corridor. It first launched the technology in business class departure areas before expanding it to arriving passengers at Terminal 3.

Dubai Airports CEO Paul Griffiths said the airport plans to roll out the system to all passengers using DXB.

According to Time Out, the system lets travelers clear immigration in 3.4 seconds, compared with 12.5 seconds under conventional procedures.

Dubai’s General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) said the biometric system can process up to 10 passengers at the same time.

The airport recently upgraded the project with new biometric cameras in the first-class and business-class lounges at Terminal 3.

The system currently serves United Arab Emirates citizens and has expanded to UAE residence permit holders.

Passengers flying with Emirates can also access the contactless journey by registering through the airline’s Skywards app and uploading a selfie that matches their passport.

The platform then verifies their identity during check-in, immigration, and boarding without requiring physical travel documents.

Chief Operating Officer Majed Al Joker said Dubai Airports also uses AI behind the scenes to assign aircraft parking positions and analyze flight operations more accurately.

Griffiths said Dubai will fully deploy the technology at Al Maktoum International Airport, which the government plans to develop into the world’s largest airport by passenger capacity.
