Jakarta, ThedailyID — David Burke, known professionally as d4vd, has been formally charged with the murder of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez. The update was reported on April 21, 2026, following confirmation from Reuters regarding legal proceedings in Los Angeles County.
Prosecutors have filed first-degree murder charges along with additional allegations. According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney, the case includes “special circumstances” that could lead to severe penalties.
Authorities allege that the motive may relate to the victim’s attempt to reveal a relationship that could damage Burke’s career. In addition, prosecutors cited possible premeditation, financial motives, and the killing of a potential witness.
These factors may expose Burke to life imprisonment without parole or the death penalty under California law. Meanwhile, investigators continue to examine evidence surrounding the victim’s death.
Earlier reports confirmed that the victim’s body was found inside a Tesla linked to Burke. The discovery followed a missing person case that drew public attention.
However, Burke’s legal team has denied all allegations. According to Associated Press, his lawyers stated they will prove his innocence in court and reject claims that he caused the victim’s death.
They also emphasized their commitment to fully contest the charges during the legal process. As a result, the case is expected to proceed through several stages before reaching trial.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 23, 2026. During this stage, the court will determine whether prosecutors have sufficient evidence to move forward to a full trial, as reported by AFP.
If the court finds the evidence adequate, the case will proceed to a jury trial. The outcome will ultimately decide Burke’s legal responsibility in the case.
