Chinese Man Lives With 1.3-KG Bladder Stone for 3 Years Before Surgery

Jakarta, ThedailyID — A 56-year-old man in China reportedly lived with severe pain for three years before doctors discovered a giant 1.3-kilogram stone inside his bladder.

According to reports from South China Morning Post, the man identified as Chen visited Xuwen Hospital, which is affiliated with Guangdong Medical University, after his symptoms became increasingly unbearable.

Chen reportedly experienced frequent urination and intense pain for years. His condition later worsened to the point where he avoided traveling during the day and struggled to sleep at night.

Doctors eventually discovered a massive bladder stone measuring around 10 by 13 centimeters.

Medical scans showed the stone nearly filled his entire bladder. Reports also described it as the largest bladder stone case recorded in western Guangdong.

The giant stone caused bilateral hydronephrosis, a condition where both kidneys swell because urine cannot drain properly. Doctors also found severe urinary tract infections linked to the condition.

Medical experts warned that the stone had already pressed against the bladder wall and damaged Chen’s kidney function.

Without immediate treatment, doctors said the condition could have triggered uremia, a dangerous buildup of toxins in the blood caused by kidney failure.

A medical team later performed surgery and successfully removed the stone from Chen’s bladder. Reports described the stone as weighing 1.3 kilograms and roughly the size of two adult fists. Doctors said Chen recovered well after the operation.

Meanwhile, urologist Wang Guangchun from Shanghai Tenth People’s Hospital explained that bladder stones usually form when urine remains trapped inside the bladder for long periods.

The condition often relates to enlarged prostate issues, especially among older men. Poor lifestyle habits such as low physical activity and insufficient water intake may also increase the risk.

Doctors advised the public to drink enough water, empty the bladder regularly, and seek treatment quickly for urinary tract infections or prostate problems.

Medical experts also urged people experiencing painful urination or interrupted urine flow to immediately undergo medical examinations.

The unusual case later went viral online, with many social media users expressing shock at the stone’s enormous size and Chen’s ability to endure the pain for years.
