Jakarta, ThedailyID — Indonesian football clubs have expressed solidarity with communities affected by forest and land fires across the country. Their support has included prayers, messages of encouragement and calls for donations to help affected residents.
Borneo FC Samarinda was among the clubs that voiced concern for Kalimantan. In an Instagram post on August 21, 2026, the club hoped the fires would soon end and the environment would recover.
“Pray for Kalimantan. May the fires be extinguished soon, the air become clean again, and Kalimantan recover,” Borneo FC wrote.
PSM Makassar shared a similar message on the same day. The club, known as Juku Eja, expressed prayers for Kalimantan residents as forest fires continued to spread.
Persita Tangerang also voiced concern over haze affecting parts of Kalimantan. The club hoped residents would remain healthy and safe until the disaster passed.
Meanwhile, Madura United called on the public to unite in prayer amid the various challenges and disasters facing Indonesia. Its post in early September featured messages of support for Kalimantan, Sumatra and other affected regions.
Persija Jakarta also shared a “Pray for Indonesia” message. The club highlighted the impact on affected communities, wildlife losing their habitats and personnel working to contain the fires.
“May the fires be extinguished soon, the forests recover, and better days arrive,” Persija wrote.
Dewa United Football Academy similarly urged the public to protect forests and ecosystems. Its message warned that fires threaten both human lives and wildlife.
Kenji Nishioka, a player for Central Kalimantan-based Isenmulang Kalteng FC, also shared a message for residents of Palangkaraya. The club reposted his message on Instagram Stories, expressing hope that the haze would ease and residents would remain safe.
Persebaya Surabaya took a more direct approach by calling on supporters to donate supplies for people affected by the fires. Ahead of its match against PSS Sleman, the East Java club encouraged fans to contribute face masks and eye drops.
“One mask, a million acts of care,” Persebaya wrote. The club urged supporters to help communities affected by forest and land fires through the donation drive.
The responses highlight how football clubs can use their platforms to raise awareness and encourage public support during environmental disasters. Beyond prayers and messages of solidarity, direct donations offer a practical way to assist affected communities.
